Ranby House Visit the Holocaust Centre

Following on from their English studies of Boy in The Striped Pyjamas, and to extend and develop their knowledge, some of the Year 7 pupils at Ranby House School recently visited the Holocaust Centre at Laxton, Nottinghamshire where they went on ‘The Journey’ and then had an amazing talk from Steven Mendlesson, a holocaust survivor.

The children gained an enormous amount from their tour of the centre and talk and it added to their understanding of the events of the holocaust and what it was like to by a Jewish child at that time.

In addition to the visit to the Holocaust Centre, the children have had the opportunity to pack a suitcase as if they were going on the Kindertransport and to discuss with their families what they would wish to take. Again, this has been a very moving and emotional experience for the pupils; having to decide what memorabilia of their family to take and what necessities they would require for their journey.
