Outstanding A Level Results For Malvern St James Girls!
17 August 2012
Malvern St James Sixth Formers are once again celebrating first class A Level and AS Level results, heralding another year of excellent academic and personal achievements for girls at the School.
The results reflect a further improvement on last year’s successes at the highest grades with an amazing 30% of girls achieving straight A*and A Grades, and 1 student securing A* in all six of her A Level subjects. 61% of all grades awarded were A*-A, with an overall pass rate of 99.6%. The AS Grades were equally outstanding with 46% of results at Grade A and 69% at Grades A-B.
The vast majority of these girls are looking forward to going on to the University and course of their choice. These include an impressive range of subjects: Architecture, Biotechnology, Classical Studies, Engineering, Equine Management, French and Spanish, Law, Music, Philosophy, Politics and Economics; Accountancy and Business courses. MSJ girls will be going on to study at some of the very best UK Universities, including places at Oxbridge, LSE, UCL, Imperial College, Bristol, Durham, Edinburgh, Nottingham, the Royal Agricultural College and St Andrews.
Ledbury based student Catherine Okey was celebrating achieving 3 A Grades, securing her a place at Bristol University to read Music. Catherine said, “I am really, really thrilled to achieve such fantastic grades; I can’t wait to start University in October”. Her mother, Mrs Aileen Okey added, “We are so proud of Catherine – she won a music scholarship to MSJ and has never looked back. MSJ has done so much for her over the last 5 years”.
Head Girls Rosie Baker from London, and Jessica Wright from Warwickshire, have been at MSJ since the age of 11 and have secured their coveted places at Cambridge and Oxford Universities, both to study Geography. Jess said, “I’m thrilled with my results. I can’t believe it’s really happening and that I’ll be off to Oxford in less than a month! It has been a wonderful 7 years at MSJ.” Rosie added, “I'm delighted with my results! It feels great to have all my hard work finally paying off. I'd like to say a special thank you to all our teachers who have given us such wonderful support and guidance over the past 7 years”.
Headmistress, Mrs Patricia Woodhouse, member of the Girls’ School Association, said:
‘These spectacular results highlight MSJ’s rightful reputation for its high quality, all-round education for girls. University entry has become increasingly competitive and success relies on more than purely academic performance. Our excellent record here also reflects the depth and breadth of experiences on offer to the girls; the diverse skills they develop, thanks to a challenging, extended curriculum and exciting extra-curriculum programme. It also reflects dedicated, first-class teaching and facilities; personally-tailored career advice and an aspirational environment, where a girl’s potential is limitless. Each student can expect to leave Malvern St James with an education she can be proud of and which will remain with her for life! We are immensely proud of the girls and all their outstanding achievements; we wish them every success in their future studies”.
