Year 1 children from Taverham Hall School were very fortunate and enjoyed a warm, dry day when they visited Gressenhall Rural Life Museum as part of their topic work! First the pupils visited a Victorian cottage and one of the children, Elliott S. experienced sitting in a hip bath. The Victorian shop selling tins of Cadbury’s Cocoa and the school room where there were notices saying “children should be seen and not heard”, caused much amusement as well as interest amongst the boys and girls. Abbie A. acted the part of the teacher helper filling the inkwells and Benjamin R. played the piano to accompany the children. A walk down to the farm saw the wonderful Suffolk Punch horses, piglets, goats and turkeys which was then followed by something the children had all been looking forward to – the washing and the cooking! One group of pupils went into the farmhouse and made little cottage loaves, whilst the adults whipped cream to make butter. The children then sampled the bread and butter and pronounced it delicious! The second group of youngsters were involved in a Victorian wash day, seeing the carbolic soap grated into the water, using the dolly and the washboard to clean the clothes and the highlight of the day – using the mangle to squeeze out the water! The children finished with an energetic time on the very exciting adventure playground. Everyone had a wonderful time, Matilda B. summed it up saying “I wish this day would never end, it’s the best ever.”

Concert
Taverham Hall Preparatory School’s Chapel Choir join together with The Wensum Camerata in performing at St Mary’s Church, North Elmham (one of Norfolk’s grandest churches) on Saturday 15th June. The memorable programme will embrace one of the most loved pieces of sacred music in Vivaldi’s ‘Gloria’. Taverham Hall Preparatory School's Chapel Choir is an established choir of boys and girls who are pupils at the school. Entry to the choir is by audition and the age range is between 8 and 13. Many of the school's choristers play one or more instruments and go on to gain music scholarship places at senior school. The role of the choir has evolved over the last fifty years. Originally, the choir sang a full evensong each week and led the singing at the local church on Sundays. The choir has sung evensong at many English cathedrals, including Peterborough, Wells and St. Pauls. In recent years the choir has twice been a finalist in the Barnardos Youth Choir Festival in London, has sung at the prestigious Fishmongers' Hall in London and has performed locally in festivals and churches. Last Christmas, Taverham Hall's choir led the singing at the United Norwich Kidney Patients' Association Carol Service at Norwich Cathedral. The choir rehearses regularly each week and leads the singing in the school's morning assemblies, performs in most of Taverham Hall's music concerts and plays a major role in their annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in December. For this concert the choir is augmented to include alto, tenor and bass voices, including members of staff and friends of the school. Taverham Hall Preparatory School Chapel Choir is delighted to have the opportunity to sing in this beautiful church and to be accompanied by the accomplished musicians from The Wensum Camerata. The concert starts at 19:00 and admission is by programme at £7 (£5 concessions, under 16 free) on the door or in advance from: http://www.ticketsource.co.uk/elmhamchurchevents/ General information can be found at: http://www.elmhamchurchgroupnorfolk.org.uk/elmham-music/
