    Late in February ten choirs from Salisbury schools combined to perform the Young Supporters Concert in Salisbury Cathedral. Each school performed a number of individual items and then all the choirs combined, under the baton of Mrs Olivia Sparkhall, Deputy Director of Music at Godolphin, to form a Massed Choir which performed The Lord Bless You and Keep You and The Rhythm of Life.

    On Saturday, Godolphin’s Douglas House welcomed guests from the Salisbury branch of the Alzheimer’s Society for an afternoon of chat, entertainment and tea. We had a lovely time, catching up with old friends and reminiscing about the ‘good old days!’ Olivia Sparkhall, Head of Douglas House, said, ‘I was so impressed with how well the girls entertained our guests. There was a happy buzz in the library all afternoon with plenty of laughter and shared enjoyment in the tea party.’

    Celebrating 25 Years of Art & Design at Godolphin

    The Godolphin Art & Design department, supported by the Music department, held a very successful private view event in London recently to celebrate 25 Years of Art & Design at Godolphin. The event, held at etc.venues The Hatton, in Hatton Garden, was a multifaceted occasion with invitations extended to the Heads of London prep schools, as well as the Heads of Art and Music at various London prep schools. Prospective parents from in and around London, as well as current London parents, were also invited. Invitations were also extended to all art scholars at Godolphin over the past 25 years. This was a unique opportunity for “old girls” to get together with the common denominator being their time spent studying art at Godolphin. The event was open to all OGs on both the Friday evening and Saturday afternoon and was very well attended with more than 100 OGs visiting the exhibition over the two days. The exhibition will hang in The Hatton until December 7 and is open to the public as well as to all corporate clients attending conferences and workshops at the venue. etc.venues hosted their own corporate view of the exhibition to which they invited their clients and supporters. This function was attended by almost 80 guests who were astonished at the calibre of the work on display. “This work is amazing… are you sure it has been done by school girls” asked one conference organiser. “Stunning, incredible, brilliant – what more can I say?” said a city based event manager. “Does Godolphin only specialise in art” asked yet another, who was astonished to hear that art is one of many things at which Godolphin excels.     Team GB Olympian speaks at Godolphin Sports Awards

    International Modern Pentathlete, Mhairi Spence, attended the Godolphin Sports Awards evening as guest speaker. Mhairi spoke of her passion for sport, the dedication and commitment required to be a top athlete, and her dream of representing her country at the 2012 Olympics. In a moving speech she told the girls: “Dreams can come true, look at me, I’m going to the Olympics.” Mhairi then handed out awards to the Most Valuable and Most Improved Players in various teams, as well as the key awards of the evening which were made to: Katie Butcher (Most Improved Player), Steph Crews (Greatest Contribution to PE), Alice Baatz and Lulu Buckley (Sports Personalities of the Year) and Anna Featherstone (Sports Woman of the Year). The Olympic spirit continued to take hold as the whole school celebrated World Sport Day on one of the pitches by forming the Olympic Rings. The term finished with an Olympic Themed Sports day in glorious sunshine. Tutor groups were encouraged to paint a flag from nations around the world, and paraded around the pitch in true Olympic style. Douglas eventually ran away with the “Points on the Day” cup with Alex Mundell being awarded Best Senior Athlete and Sophie Merritt, best Junior Athlete.

    Two Godolphin girls are heading out to the Senior Lacrosse European Championships which start on 23 June in Amsterdam. Anna Featherstone who captains the school first team and was Player of the Tournament at this season’s National School Championships, has been selected to represent England.

    Godolphin Vocal ensemble top three in the country

    Godolphin’s Vocal Ensemble continues to feature amongst the very top rated choirs in the country, being placed in the top three senior choirs in the BBC Songs of Praise Senior Choir of the Year competition on Sunday. The competition, which is entered by schools across the length and breadth of the United Kingdom, is an annual feature of the popular BBC Songs of Praise series. Last year the Godolphin Vocal Ensemble made it through to the semi-finals of six schools and this year through to the final three schools.

    The Senior Semi-final of Godolphin’s Got Talent was held in the Performing Arts Centre at the School on Thursday night amidst great excitement. The show was hosted by Christian Malcolm, Britain’s world class sprinter, and the judges were Christian Aloize from the dance machine Flawless, Louise Beale, former Godolphin student and current TV journalist for Sky and Bloomberg, and John Adams, from the X Factor.

    The Junior Semi-final of Godolphin’s Got Talent was held in the Performing Arts Centre at the School on Friday night amidst great excitement. The show was hosted by Jamie Laing of Made in Chelsea fame, and the judges were Spencer Matthews, also from Made in Chelsea, John Adams from the X-factor, Nick Stewart, music impresario and Bethan Fergusson, musician and careers guidance teacher at Godolphin.
